Land of Jackie Chan, noodles and neon signs, wow what a fascinating place! We were staying in Kowloon which is South of the New Territories and a stone’s throw from Hong Kong Island itself. I’ve never seen so many neon signs or lighting in my life. The buildings were tall and as you looked up all you could see were these illuminated signs which jutted out between the buildings filling what would otherwise be a void of sky. The place buzzed with activity and probably had more people on the streets going about their business than you would find in London.

Having flown back to Johannesburg our flight to Delhi included a night’s stay in Hong Kong. The flight from Johannesburg to Hong Kong was twelve and a half hours, our longest flight yet. The Hong Kong international airport is now based on Lantau Island not Hong Kong Island as it used to be. We had pre-booked a youth hostel on the island for convenience as it was just a short stay. We then intended, if time allowed, to visit Hong Kong Island.
